With neither apologies nor royalties to Ambrose Bierce he's long dead and
the copyright on his Devil's Dictionary has long run out,
here's our deliberately dark, and hopefully light view of
Derivatives terms and others. Ed.
Disclaimer: The definitions in this dictionary do not
reflect the official view of the William Margrabe Group, Inc.,
William Margrabe, or anyone else connected with the Group. We
offer this page only as a service to anyone interested in
understanding the dark side of the financial world. The
definitions certainly don't reflect the official views of
contributors, who remain anonymous, unless otherwise noted.
Because of the cynical and sarcastic nature of some of the
definitions, we hope they don't reflect anyone's true point of
view. If they reflect anything, it is only random, fugitive
thoughts of abnormal minds, hopefully depressed by alcohol or
excited by caffeine. And yet, can we say that these definitions
contain no kernels of truth? You be the judge.
If you ever run across a mischievous Derivatives term that you
don't see in the Devil's Derivatives DictionaryTM why don't you just
send Dr. Risk E-mail that
includes useful information such as where your read or
heard the term, and the context in which you found it (this will
increase your probability of a favorable outcome) and tell
him your cynical, politically incorrect definition? Dr. Risk will
respond to you directly. We'll feature the most interesting terms
and your definitions when we revise the
page.
FYI, for everyone who like me
lacks a background in Latin, q.v. is the abbreviation for
a Latin expression that means, "which see". When you
see (q.v.) in a definition, you might want to follow up
the definition you're reading with a visit to the definition of
the nearby Derivatives term, to add context.
